  Byron Bay Bluesfest

Nestled on 120 hectares of rolling green fields between Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads, Tyagarah was an amazing host for the venue this year which saw about 15,000 festival go-ers past through the gates each day and over 6000 people camp for the weekend. The festival first began in 1990 at the Arts Factory Village Byron Bay in Byron Bay, now a Nomads Hostel, and quickly became known as the “The Byron Bay Bluesfest“. The Bluesfest to this day remains one of Australia’s most acclaimed and respected festivals and has been inspirational for many other festivals around the world.

The festival has hosted a number of internationally recognized artists over its history including John Mayer, ZZ Top, REM, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, The Roots, Michael Franti, The Dave Matthews Band, Donovan Frankenreiter, The Back Keys, Joss Stone, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Sinead O’Connor.

If you’ve been doing a whole lotta thinkin’ about going to Bluesfest, then we suggest you do a whole lotta doin’. With headliners Ben Harper, Robert Plant, Paul Simon,Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Rodriguez and Jason Mraz on the bill it’s time to make up your mind and stop procrastinating because tickets have started to sell-out.

Festival Director, Peter Noble has just sent us the word, “Only a handful of 3 day Thu/Fri/Sat - plus Sat/Sun/Mon tickets are left and remaining 3 day tickets likely to sell out in as matter of days.

AND – there are maybe 2 handfuls of 5 day season tickets and everything is selling fast, whilst season tickets won't last a hell of a lot longer.

If you were hoping to go on Friday then you’re too late as it’s sold out as is 3 day Fri/Sat/Sun tickets. One day Saturday tickets featuring Robert Plant are likely to be the next one day ticket to sell out. We are urging prospective ticket buyers not to delay if they want to buy any type of season ticket – the time to avoid disappointment is now.

Bluesfest has such an amazing array of talent on display this year - no wonder it is beginning to sell out on certain days so don't miss out on what many all over the world are saying is THE festival bill to go to this year. Everything is on track to present the best Bluesfest ever so what are you waiting for? The countdown is ON!"

“What a year 2013 has been so far”, says Peter Noble, next year we turn 25 so you can bet that it will be one hell of a party with some awesome artists on the bill. Artists love coming to play in Byron and I’ve spoken to many over the past few months and they all want to come and soak up our special vibe and party up for our special birthday next year”.

With just under three weeks to go until the blues and roots juggernaut that is Byron Bay Bluesfest rolls around it’s time to start planning your Festival experience.

Boasting a line up incomparable in the history of the event, punters will need to start separating themselves into whether they are on the Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite side of the fence or the Chris Isaak side from Day 1 on Thursday 28 March.

Guitar lovers are in for a treat on Good Friday as Santana followed by Tedeschi Trucks Band take the stage, meanwhile fans of the smaller stringed ukulele variety will need to get there early for internationally renowned Uke player Jake Shimabukuro.

The Beards are set to play a jaw-dropping four times over five days and are in for a potential beard-off with the husky voiced Ben Caplan from Canada who plays on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

On Saturday night, Blues fans will be staying put at the Jambalaya stage with a line up boasting Ruthie Foster, Taj Mahal and The Robert Cray Band, while the more energetic punters are sure to be over at Crossroads with Beasts of Bourbon and the Dropkick Murphys.

Lines will be drawn in the sand as Festival-goers then decide how to finish up their night, will it be the legendary Robert Plant presents Sensational Space Shifters or the irrepressible Iggy and the Stooges?

The line up for Sunday will have you dancing all day long as King Cannons kick things off early and are followed by the very big sounds of Saskwatch, Nicky Bomba’s Bustamento, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Cat Empire and Manu Chao La Ventura. Or just take a moment and be seduced by soul divas Bettye Lavette and Mavis Staples.

Headlining Monday is Paul Simon, a musician whose career is so well known he needs no introduction. Acts that are sure to take home a whole new legion of fans include JD McPherson, Zac Brown Band, 2013 Brit Award Winning Ben Howard as well as the hottest act on the airwaves right now, The Lumineers.

According to Festival Director Peter Noble, “I have heard people say that missing out on this Bluesfest would be like missing out on a major highlight in your life.”

Ensuring that the Festival experience is navigated and for those who want to see what they are missing out on, Rhythms has it all in their online flipbook and iPad App available now.

More Wins for Artists on Bluesfest 2013 Line up

Testatment to the terrific line-up for Bluesfest 2013 is yet more news regarding major music industry award wins. 25 year old Ben Howard has just taken out the Best Male Solo of the Year and Breakthrough Act of Year at last night’s Brit Awards. "The breakthrough [award] was pretty funny. I didn't really expect it to be honest. I didn't expect any of them. It was kind of genuine shock. I thanked my mum on the first one, so that was pretty rock and roll, says Ben Howard [The Telegraph UK].” Over at the BAFTAs the documentary about the most intriguing man on the Bluesfest bill Rodriguez - In Search of Sugarman has taken out Best Documentary. http://www.dstv.com/News/BAFTAS-honour-Searching-For-Sugar-Man/37414

“What a year 2013 is turning out to be for Bluesfest”, says Peter Noble Festival Director. “I couldn’t be any happier right now, all this good news is positively overwhelming. To have such talented artists both legendary and up-and-coming on our Bluesfest stages is out of this world”.

Joining this highly prestigious winning streak; 3 artists from this year’s Bluesfest line-up picked up a swag of Grammy Awards earlier this month. Bonnie Raitt for Best Americana, Jimmy Cliff for Best Reggae and Zac Brown Band for Best Country Album.

Adding to the winning streak is the recent announcement for rising star and man-of-the-moment; Trombone Shorty who was awarded Artist of the Year, Best R&B/Funk Artist and Best Trombonist by the US Beat Awards.
