HUNT FOR NEW BLOOD STARTS MAY 20TH


On May 20th Bloodstock start the quest to seek out some killer breaking bands for this year’s Newblood Stage. With no less than 18 venues across the UK, as well as Scandinavia and Europe, Bloodstock Open Air is reaching out yet again to find the loudest, fastest and most brutal metal bands for the biggest independent metal festival in the UK!

The 2012 UK Tour promises to bring the noise and raise horns for the underground scene Showcasing the best of the best and offering fans a chance to win tickets to BOA and be part of something unique to the bloodstock experience.

So for the bands and fans this is a must with acts standing the possibility of joining us at Bloodstock (or winning a further slot at either Wacken or Metalcamp in 2013), but as importantly its about fans of real music - spending time with real people – enjoying real Metal.

MOONSORROW AND FREEDOM CALL
EXCLUSIVE UK SHOWS IN 2012


Finnish Pagan outfit MOONSORROW and German metallers FREEDOM CALL have just announced they will both make exclusive UK performances on the main stage of this years BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR.

Moonsorrow who describe their sound as ‘Epic Heathen Metal’ are extremely excited to be a part of this years line up. With the band residing in Helsinki Finland, their lyrics draw inspirations from Finnish mythology, legends and poetry. Drummer Marko Tarvonen expresses his delight for being added to this years line up;
"We are truly excited to take part in Bloodstock Festival 2012. It's been way too long since we played on the British soil in 2008 and we know that lately there has been a huge demand for Moonsorrow to play in the UK. So, all our loyal fans in the UK, we want to see a massive crowd of insane berserks during our set. Don't let us down because we promise we don't let you down, cheers!"

Freedom Call hailing from Nürnberg, Germany are ready to bring their mix of melodic power metal to the Bloodstock masses this year. Bloodstock founder Paul Raymond Gregory also designed album artwork for the band including ‘Stairway To Fairyland’ and ‘Crystal Empire’. Their latest album ‘Land Of The Crimson Dawn’ was released in February and was described as “..full of attraction, fascination and illusions.” By Vocalist Chris Bay, who also expresses his anticipation to play at this years festival;
"The Bloodstock Festival is the pulsating heart of Heavy Metal...a great audience, which knows exactly to revel."

The epitome of heavy, Kirk Windstein and co have been showing the world that speed isn’t everything since their debut “Obedience Thru Suffering” stunned the metal world in 1991 with its downtuned, slow-paced yet punishingly heavy sound. With the main RONNIE JAMES DIO stage filling up with a host of exclusive appearances from some of metal’s mightiest megastars - including DIMMU BORGIR, PARADISE LOST, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, HATEBREED, NILE and many more - BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR reveals four more bands for it’s second stage.

Coming back to where it all began, British Thrashers EVILE return to BLOODSTOCK to deliver a high energy neck-breaking thrash feast. Guitarist Old Drake comments:

"It was great to wake up to the confirmation of our appearance at the one and only Bloodstock Festival. With the release of our "Five Serpent's Teeth" album we dedicated the track "Centurion" to the festival, and for them to have us back with a great slot on the Sophie Lancaster stage, it's bound to be a show to remember. We may just even have a special, first time live-airing, of the previously mentioned track for the BOA masses. Come along for your Evile fix! Long live Bloodstock!"

Making their UK festival debut, Gothenburg’s MARIONETTE will help get the party started on the Thursday night on the SOPHIE stage. With their roots in melodic death metal, last year’s “Nerve” album saw the band evolve into something truly unique, combining industrial laced metal with stunning soundscapes, earning them rave reviews across the board. "Our sights are firmly set on the UK following our recent run there with Dead By April, "Slay The UK tour" in May and our upcoming appearance at Bloodstock Open Air in August.” Says guitarist and mainman Aron Parmerud. “ BOA is a festival we have heard great things about from fans and bands we have toured with and we look forward to tearing up the East Midlands again!"

They are joined by Brighton rockers FURYON, who’s recently released Gravitas album is currently earning them praise and adoration across the world of rock. Iconic riffs, jaw dropping solos and one of the tightest rhythm sections this country has ever produced, the SOPHIE LANCASTER stage is in for a treat. The band checked in to say:

“Furyon are delighted to be booked for the immense bloodstock for our second year and are proud to be able to contribute to the sophie lancaster stage and foundation.”

They are joined by UK metal mongers DERISION, who will deliver a furious set of 80s inspired thrash bound to go down a storm, at the UK’s most metal festival.

With two headliners announced for the Friday and Sunday, and a special guest already confirmed for the Saturday, the question on everyone’s lips is - WHO IS THE FINAL HEADLINER?
Well, we can finally reveal who the prestigious slot has gone to. Kind of.
Due to circumstances beyond our control - all of which will become apparent - We are unable to share the name of the Saturday Night headliner at this point. What we can tell you is this; The Saturday night at Bloodstock will see the festival’s most prestigious and exciting headliner to date, doing something very, very special, at their first ever UK Festival Headline slot. All will be revealed at 6pm on the 6th June 2012.

Bloodstock band booker Vicky Gregory say’s:
"To say we are excited is an understatement! This is the biggest metal act we have ever had and a band we have wanted to see at Bloodstock for years.. we’re just gutted we can’t announce them until 6th June at 6pm, but it’s definitely worth the wait!"

In the meantime, here is another four acts to add to the already stunning line up.
When RONNIE JAMES DIO passed away in 2010, BLOODSTOCK founder Paul Gregory - who had provided artwork for DIO’s albums - immediately paid tribute by renaming BLOODSTOCK’s main stage in his honour. Now, two years later, his former band mates pay their respects, with DIO DISCIPLES.

Former DIO drummer Simon Wright, Guitarist Craig Goldy and keyboardist Scott Warren have roped in the help of their friends, vocalists Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth) and Toby Jepson (Little Angels, Fastway, Gun) and bassist James LoMenzo (Megadeth, Black Label Society, Slash’s Snakepit, White Lion, David Lee Roth) to relive DIOs glory moments for a nostalgic and emotional tribute. Says the DIO DISCIPLES:
“There will never be another Ronnie James Dio but we wanted to keep the music alive!”
The SOPHIE stage boasts three excellent additions too, showcasing the best of emerging British talent. Flying the flag for female-fronted battle metal, Englands very own PYTHIA announce their return to BLOODSTOCK hot off the back of the recently released “The Serpents Curse”. Thrashing, majestic metal coupled with Emily Ovendens operatic vocals, their set on the SOPHIE stage will be a triumphant return.

They are joined by fellow British metalheads PRIMITAI. Having played shows with the likes of White Wizzard, Firewind and Warbringer, and no stranger to festivals having previously performed at BLOODSTOCK, PRIMITAI have earned rave reviews for their thrashy take on NWOBHM.

Grindcore Supergroup LOCK UP (featuring members of At The Gates, Ex-Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death and Brujeria), have announced that they will be appearing on the MAIN STAGE at this years BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL.

After the tragic death of original guitarist Jesse Pintado (also of Napalm Death and Terrorizer) in 2006, it seemed that LOCK UP were destined to remain an exciting chapter in extreme metal’s history. However, after an incredible reaction in 2009 at an originally planned one off show, with new recruit Anton Reisenegger on guitar duties, all involved decided there was more still to be done. With latest album "Necropolis Transparent" their filthiest piece of work yet, LOCK UP are set to tear BLOODSTOCK’s main stage a new one at this exclusive festival appearance. Says bassplayer Shane Embury:
“LOCK UP are very, very excited to play bloodstock this year, I think this will be my 4th time as a musician and have always had a great show there and a hell of a lot of fun - a home away from home!”

Taiwanese hard rock superstars CHTHONIC have also announced they will join the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage line up on the Saturday. The release of their album ‘Takasago Army’ in 2011 saw them draw more strongly than ever on their Eastern influences, giving true sense to the words ‘Orient Metal’ – the term the band use to describe their hybrid music style.

The SOPHIE LANCASTER STAGE line up continues to grow with a further six bands announced.
French Post-Black Metal outfit ALCEST, are the third headliner to be announced for the Sophie Lancaster Stage, joining ORANGE GOBLIN and ANAAL NATHRAKH. With their unique compositions of music from another world and a ‘KKKKK’ review for their latest album ‘Les Voyages De L’âme’, their creative sound will almost certainly be a highlight for those who witness their set.
"Bloodstock will be our first open air in the UK. We're extremely glad to play such a famous and amazing festival. UK always has been great for Alcest and we just can't wait to be there!"
English Black Metallers, WINTERFYLLETH are currently working on their 3rd album, for a 2012 release on Candlelight Records and will follow up their release with an appearance at Bloodstock.
"Winterfylleth are incredibly proud to have been asked to appear at Bloodstock Open Air once again in 2012. Our somewhat 'last minute' appearance in 2010 was a pivotal point for propelling us forward up to now, and we appreciate the support that grass roots festivals like Bloodstock provide for up and coming bands, such as we were. It is gratifying to play a festival supported by people who care so much about the music we make and we cannot respect that enough. We'd love to see you bring yourselves, your encouraging spirit and your voices to Catton Hall in August and support this great event. See you all in the summer!"

DEMONIC RESSURECTION are one of the most important bands to have come out of the Indian music scene, and after plans to tour the UK collapsed last year, they are happy to announce their appearance on the Sophie Lancaster Stage. It’s been a long and sometimes arduous 10-year journey for the band, but in June 2010 they won the ‘Global Metal’ award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods, which shows that the journey for Demonic Resurrection, is only just beginning…..
“We were gutted last year when our UK tour got cancelled but we're stoked to be coming to the UK finally and playing the prestigious Bloodstock Festival. We've got a lot of support from our fans in the UK and we can't wait to play for them and hang out and get to know them. The icing on the cake is that we get to watch some of our idols like Dimmu Borgir, Nile and Behemoth at the festival.”

French quintet HEADCHARGER join the already solid line up with their infectious grooves already spreading all over Europe & their latest album ‘Slow Motion Disease’ set for release 30th April 2012 via XIII BIS Records.

EASTERN FRONT have also been confirmed to bring their unique sound of ‘War Torn Black Metal’ to the Bloodstock Masses. With their second album currently due for release later this year via Candlelight Records, they will no doubt be showcasing some new material.

And last but not least, ANCIENT ASCENDANT a 4 piece death metal band from Reading/London who are pioneering a fusion of old school principles with modern dynamics and power, are extremely happy to announce their appearance at Catton Hall.
"We are immensely proud to be playing B.O.A not least because it's such an institution but also because we'll be playing alongside some of our favourite bands. For us it's a huge step forward in bringing our vision of death metal to a larger crowd and we are incredibly

After a successful 2011, guest list donations will again be made to Teenage Cancer Trust with money raised going towards helping young people with cancer in the UK. There’ll also be many things across the weekend to raise awareness of the charity that festival goers can get involved with.

This year in the Teenage Cancer Trust marquee situated in the festival arena there’ll be a T-shirt Amnesty, with old rock / metal T-shirts available in exchange for a donation while festival goers are invited to donate their unwanted T-shirts. There will also be a raffle over the weekend with an exclusive prize for one lucky winner. More details of this will be announced nearer the time.

ICED EARTH & SEPULTURA EXCLUSIVE UK APPEARANCE AT BLOODSTOCK 2012


Metal titans ICED EARTH and thrash icons SEPULTURA are the latest additions to BLOODSTOCK 2012, joining an already stellar line up that includes headline sets from ALICE COOPER and BEHEMOTH, as well as exclusive appearances from WATAIN, special guests DIMMU BORGIR, HATEBREED, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER & many more.

ICED EARTH were born in 1985, formed by Jon Schaffer – a determined, street-tough kid with the drive to create a band to make his heroes Judas Priest, KISS, and Iron Maiden proud. The band released its riff-heavy self-titled debut album in 1990 and never looked back. Nine studio albums – considered masterpieces of metal – cemented the band’s reputation for crafting exceptionally well-made music, the centerpiece of which being Schaffer’s trademark rhythm guitar style and powerful, in-your-face lyrics that often combine themes of self reliance, a healthy distrust of authority, history, and science fiction. He says:
"We are looking forward to returning to Bloodstock in 2012, our second time after 2008. The UK shows we played on our World Dystopia Tour last fall were some of the best on the tour and we cannot wait to bang our heads with the UK minions again!"

Over the years, Schaffer has surrounded himself with some of the finest musicians in the world – including famed vocalists Matt Barlow, Tim Owens, and now Stu Block – to help bring his musical visions to life. To coincide with Halloween what better way to celebrate than with a stunning announcement courtesy of BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR. With other festivals still to announce any bands, BLOODSTOCK has got off to an incredible start with ANVIL, PARADISE LOST, WATAIN and ORANGE GOBLIN already confirmed, and this latest announcement only serves to reinforce what the organisers have proven since it’s inception - that each year will be bigger and better than the previous one.

On the RONNIE JAME DIO main stage, Norwegian Black Metal superstars DIMMU BORGIR return to BLOODSTOCK for their only UK show of 2012, taking next year’s first Special Guest slot. Undoubtedly Norway’s biggest Black Metal export, DIMMU BORGIR are one of the scene’s leaders, seamlessly blending ferocious metal with epic classical orchestration to create one of extreme music’s most instantly identifiable sounds. Gearing up for a very special UK tour next month, the band took time out from rehearsals to tell us:

"We are extremely excited to be a part of next year´s Bloodstock festival. It will be great to reconnect with our UK based friends and fans and party up a storm!"

Joining them are hardcore metal heroes HATEBREED. Ultra-aggressive and punishingly heavy, a HATEBREED show will demand - and command - your undivided attention with their brutal, boot-to-the-teeth heaviness. This Connecticut hardcore/metal institution has been demolishing its way around the globe since 1994. Not many bands can enjoy that kind of longevity, but HATEBREED have made being a “career band” look easy, gracing countless magazine covers, performing at some of the biggest metal festivals around the world and even receiving a Grammy nomination. Says band leader/vocalist Jamey Jasta of their only UK show of 2012:

"We're all very excited to play Bloodstock. It's fast becoming one of the best festivals for extreme music and this year's line up is going to crush. We are honoured to share the stage with such awesome bands and happy that we can come and play for our UK die hards!"

Another band who’s only UK performance of 2012 will be on BLOODSTOCK’s RONNIE JAMES DIO stage are none other than CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - or C.O.C for the initiated - who bring their original line up to CATTON HALL for a very special set. Together again after 25 years, Reed Mullin, Woody Weatherman and Mike Dean reunite to bring the spirit of 1985 to Derbyshire, with tracks from their hugely influential crossover classic “Animosity”.

Over on the SOPHIE LANCASTER stage, British Black metal Bruisers ANAAL NATHRAKH make their only UK festival performance of 2012. Created for one purpose - to be the soundtrack for armageddon, the audial essence of evil, hatred and violence, the true spirit of necro taken to its musical extremes - ANNAL NATHRAKH have released four albums to rapturous acclaim, and boast collaborations with such legendary figures as Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Shane Embury and Danny Herrera (Napalm Death), Nick Barker (Testament, Dimmu Borgir), Joe Horvath (Circle of Dead Children), and BLOODSTOCK fellow Sethlans Teitan (Watain). With appearances on BBC Radio 1 at the personal behest of sadly missed icon John Peel, a headline set at Inferno Festival in Norway, countless placings in ‘best album of the year’ polls and album of the month awards in the press, as well as cover appearances on leading magazines such as Terrorizer on their CV, ANAAL NATHRAKH’s status as one of the leading lights in extreme metal is undeniable. Says the band of their overdue appearance at Britain’s only true outdoor metal festival:

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR has revealed the latest additions to next year’s line up. England’s own masters of misery PARADISE LOST join the 2012 line up - which already boasts ORANGE GOBLIN and ANVIL - to return to BLOODSTOCK’s main stage, having played the first ever outdoor event in 2005. One of the most successful and influential bands the British metal scene has ever produced, PARADISE LOST are true pioneers, with their early blend of death/doom giving way to the more melodic sound that defined the gothic metal genre. Guitarist Greg Mackintosh observes:

"We had the pleasure of playing the first ever Bloodstock Open Air way back in 2005, when it was quite an intimate affair. It's an honour to be asked back to BOA 2012, which looks to be shaping up to be a blinding festival. Since we last played, we have seen BOA grow into the Great British metal festival it is today. We look forward to seeing you all down the front."

With a back catalogue spanning twelve albums over twenty two years - and a DVD set for release before Bloodstock 2012 ("Draconian Times MMXI" features the London show at The Forum on April 1, a documentary from the whole tour, interviews about the history of "Draconian Times" and the two promo videos from their latest album, "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us") - PARADISE LOST are one of the few bands capable of delivering a set that will satisfy both fans of more brutal, death tinged doom with songs such as “Eternal”, “As I Die” and “Gothic”, as well as the melodic, gothic darkness of “Embers Fire”, “Hallowed Land” and “The Last Time”.

Joining them are Swedish Black Metal misanthropists WATAIN, who make their BLOODSTOCK debut at a very special slot on the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage. Festering in the Black Metal underground since 2000, WATAIN’s rise through the ranks has been an impressive one, with Erik Danielsson’s dedication and conviction setting them apart, leading the band to become one of the most prolific acts on the scene today. Of next year’s appearance, the band states:

"The United Kingdom has spawned many a thing inspirational to Watain, be it druidic sorcery, Venom or Judas Priest. Our performances there have always been spiced with a nameless sensation of raw powerand this is the main reason why we have chosen Bloodstock to be one of the very few festival shows we will perform next year. As always, expect something very far from the ordinary."

Famed for their incredibly atmospheric live shows, their set at BOA 2012 will be their biggest UK performance to date, and as such the band are preparing to deliver a suitably memorable set, with a show full of satanic majesty planned, as blood, fire and fierce Black Metal spew out over a dusk covered CATTON HALL.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR saw it’s most successful year yet as 10,900 metalheads descended on CATTON HALL this year. From the moment THE DEFILED struck their first note, opening the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage on the Friday, it was clear the assembled army of metalheads were in for a hell of a weekend. Whether it was the metal thrashing madness of the likes of FORBIDDEN, KREATOR and EXODUS, the brutality of MORBID ANGEL, AT THE GATES and NAPALM DEATH or plain ol heavy metal from international heavyweights such asRHAPSODY OF FIRE, HAMMERFALL and WOLF, all in attendance were treated to a veritable metal banquet, crowned by headline sets from MOTORHEAD, WASP andIMMORTAL - who brought their full pyro show to the UK for the first time in history.

ANVIL are true defenders of the faith, having never lost sight of their vision to create uncompromising, dyed in the wool heavy metal. They have been on a rock ‘n’ roll journey for the past 30 years and while few bands can make it to the three year mark,ANVIL have closed in on three decades of the most uncompromised and ear pleasing metal known to headbangers.

Ever since the award-winning documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” propelled the Canadian band from their respectable, hard-earned status as a band revered by the likes of Metallica, Motorhead and Guns N’ Roses, ANVILfounding members, vocalist/guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner, have made sure that one thing remains constant; their dedication to their music. Their performance at BOA 2012 is bound to be a memorable one in BLOODSTOCK’s history.

Home-grown stoners ORANGE GOBLIN are first to be confirmed for the SOPHIE stage next year. Since the mid 90s, ORANGE GOBLIN have upheld the traditions of great British heavy rock and metal, cementing their place in rock history as pioneers alongside the likes of Monser Magnet, Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Clutch. Since their formation in the late night drinking holes of London’s Soho, the band have risen to the very pinnacle of what they do, earning a reputation as an awesome live band that has seen them share the stage all over the world with the likes of Alice Cooper, Heaven & Hell, Sex Pistols, Kreator, Queens of the Stone Age, Danzig, Monster Magnet, Nashville Pussy, Cathedral, Nebula, Unida, Alabama Thunderpussy, Dio, Grand Magus, Witchcraft and many more. These include clinical and research staff, an education programme for schools, family support networks and an annual conference for young cancer patients.

With the BLOODSTOCK Metal 2 The Masses roadshow hot footing its way round England, Wales, Scotland and Norway covering over 3,500 road miles, several flights and countless over priced service station coffee’s - the journey is nearing its conclusion.

IMPALED EXISTENCE

Impaled Existence is a 5-piece progressive, groove death metal band from North Wales, UK. Forming in 2004, the band has grown and matured into a finely tuned combination of brutality and melody. With songs "A BLACKENED HEART" and "THROUGH STINGING EYES" the band shows off it's more aggressive and progressive side with devastating riffs, stomach crushing bass lines, pounding double-bass footwork and ear-shattering vocals. Showing their diversity, songs "WORTHY OF REMAINS" and "FICTIONS WITHIN THE MIND" demonstrate the band's more melodic side. HOSTILE RISING

Hostile Rising formed in autumn 2008. Together the five members create a blend of tight, machine-gun riffs and southern grooves with a dark, melodic edge.
The band have gigged with acts throughout Yorkshire and the Midlands, and headlined many shows around Leeds and Wakefield in particular. HR also performed at Wakefield Rock Festival 2010, playing alongside acts including Sensor, Pitchshifter and InMe. Hostile Rising are continuously writing new material encompassing their best elements: powerful and creative drums; heavy and melodic guitars; groove-laden bass; and a blend of harsh, guttural vocals & manic screams.

WOLFCRUSHER

Wolfcrusher was the brainchild of guitarist Dan Mucs (Not Above Evil, Dirty Habit, Ten Foot Wizard) with his machine-like ability to churn out great riff after great riff, and a great ear for a mind-blowing melody, the foundations could not have been set on more solid ground.

He joined forces with drummer Dan Mikietyn (ex Blood Vigil), with a love of linear drum patterns, creative syncopation, and the priceless ability to slip into a huge groove, the two found an immediate chemistry and hit the band room to start working on something that would turn heads, and ears.

They soon enlisted good friend, and incredibly talented lead Arun Kamath (Soma Dark, ex Bisonhammer) on guitar, adding another dynamic to the already brutal tone of the band.

Chris Mitchell-Taylor (Visitor, ex-Blood Vigil) on bass, solidified the rhythm section and contributed his unique and captivating presence to the stage.

Gary Harkin (Bisonhammer, Ten Foot Wizard) came into the fold and provided the final piece of the puzzle. With the ability to Jump from guttural growls, searing screams, to the melodious vocal lines that perfectly compliment the diverse WOLFCRUSHER sound. The line-up was complete.

Wolfcrusher take their influence from Death Metal, Southern Rock, and everything in between, the only premise being: Make it groovy, make it catchy, and make it heavy!

Playing their first gig in December 2010, they instantly made a buzz as word got around about their infectious music and explosive live show.

VISITOR

The Four piece Metal act from Manchester, England, Visitor was forged by lead vocalist/guitarist Jim Foster and drummer Tim Marland to bring a different and unique sound and power to metal. The band created a unique sound to which caught the ears and eyes of fans everywhere. With the addition of second guitarist Gaz Hayden and bassist Mitch the sound of clashing guitars grew stronger and heavier. Visitor have been constantly gigging all over the country and have recently completed a new CD and are next bound for more venues around the northwest alongside Bloodstock and other proposed festival dates.
