Jettblack - Raining Rock

Young British rockers Jettblack are back with their second album - Raining Rock. Their first album "Get your hands dirty" gained them a load of fans and established them as a band to look out for, so this second album is eagerly awaited.

I'm not going to describe all the songs on the album - I'll leave you to wait and listen to the album yourselves to hear what they're like, but I will make brief comments on a few of the songs.

The first single to be released from the album is the title track - Raining rock, which is an absolutely superb rock song, and coupled with a great video I'm sure it's going to have fans really excited about the forthcoming album. I can see this song making the band a whole load of new fans particularly if it gets good airplay on radio and on TVchannels like Scuzz. I strongly recommend that you check out this song.

Perhaps taking a leaf out of Motley Crue's book, "Less torque, more thrust" opens with the sound of a motorbike before the guitars kick in. This is a great hard rock song with lots of powerful guitars.

"Prison of love" starts off as though it's going to be an acoustic ballad, but it's not long before the electric guitars kick in and the pounding drums follow shortly after. It's got quite a Skid Row feel to the song - the vocals in particular (back when they had Sebastian Bach as the singer), and is a really good song.

"Black gold" is a slower paced song - the almost obligatory ballad. It's another really strong song and shows some of the versatility the band have.

The final track on the album is an alternate version of the title track, Raining Rock. This version features the legendary Udo Dirkschneider (Accept & U.D.O.) on guest vocals. It's a great version and I cant pick which I prefer - this version or the normal one. This track was originally due to be included on the single of Raining Rock, but was removed at a late stage and is only available on the album.

In the 80's, rock music was dominated by the big American bands - Skid Row, Motley Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, Bon Jovi and more (yes I know the UK had Def Leppard and Whitesnake but they were vastly outnumbered by the US bands). These days however the UK seems to be producing some of the best rock bands with young bands like Jettblack or The Treatment releasing some really impressive stuff. With this latest release, Jettblack are staking their claim to be one of the best rock bands around, and based on this album I can see them playing bigger and bigger venues over the next couple of years - these guys are going to go a long way.

A superb rock album that's an essential addition to any rock lovers album collection.

Raining Rock will be released on 4th June via Spinefarm Records.
