Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane (10th anniversary edition)

It's ten years since Maroon 5 released their debut album, the Multi-Platinum selling "Songs about Jane", which yielded five hit singles - ‘Harder to Breathe’, ‘This Love’, ‘She Will Be Loved’, ‘Sunday Morning’ and ‘Must Get Out’. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, this deluxe edition is being released.
It’s been a busy year for singer Adam Levine, who joined The Voice US for the first two seasons, and Maroon 5, who are also set to release their fourth studio album, ‘Overexposed’, on June 25th via A&M/Octone.

This deluxe edition is a 2 CD set containing the original album plus demo versions of the songs and previously unreleased tracks ‘Take What You Want,’ ‘Woman’ and ‘Chilly Winter’ as well as ‘Rag Doll’ (a non-album B-side) and an alternative mix of ‘The Sun’. Additionally if you insert the second disc into your PC's CD drive, it will give access to two videos on www.maroon5.com including unreleased in studio footage of the making of ‘Songs About Jane’ and the official electronic press kit for the album.

It's strange how music can lodge in your brain. I didnt think I knew anything by Maroon 5, but on listening to this album I recognised around half the songs on there even though I've never consciously listened to the band - I can only assume that with all the airplay the hits got on the radio when the album was released then I did hear them, and they lodged in my brain.

So, onto the album. Well any fans of the band will already know the songs, so lets focus on the new material. The demo versions will certainly interest fans, but apart from dedicated fans then I can't see them being of sufficient interest to be listened to more than once - they're too similar to the finished versions, just a bit less polished, so most people will stick to the versions on the album.

If you've already got "Songs about Jane" then unless you're a hardcore fan then there's little thats likely to tempt you to buy this new version. If however you havent got the album then this is the best version of it yet, and it's definitely an album worth adding to your CD collection.

‘Songs About Jane’ 10th Anniversary Edition, will be released on 25th June 2012.
