Daudi Matsiko – An introduction to failure

Daudi Matsiko was born in the UK to Ugandan parents and started playing guitar at a young age. He’s released two Eps (“The lingering effects of disconnection” and “A brief introduction to failure”) that were self-released, and they’ve now been collected together into this new release – “An introduction to failure” which has just been released by Naim records.

His playing style is a delicate guitar plucking style, which really does sound great and works so well with the vocals. Overall he has a nice laid back folk sound that’s slightly reminiscent of Nick Drake.

The most important part of the songs though is the lyrics which are all about personal experiences and which really grab the listeners attention. The simple combination of an acoustic guitar and vocals is one that can either be deathly boring, or can work perfectly to focus the attention onto the lyrics and it’s the latter that we get here.

A very good release.
