Napalm/Sound Pollution

GLORYHAMMER is not a travesty of Lillyhammer but the latest outing from Christopher Bowes of ALESTORM. This concept album tells the tale of an alternative mediaeval Scottish hero by the name of (not Super Mac) wait for it… Angus McFife! He battles the evil wizard Zaragothrax in no small way and it all happens around the inauspicious city of Dundee to the tones of sing along power metal.

First up, if you can´t muster power metal, hit the stop button. If you´re not prone to a bit of Monty Python-esque Scottish humor, press the stop button. If you find this mix supportable you´ll get more than a handful of atmospheric and fun power metal, the really dance friendly variety, and a lot of unicorns, amulets and a prophecy of no small words. The voice of vocalist Thomas Winkler (EMERALD) is not bad but the operatic overtones sounds as if they put a strain on his vocal chords. The keys are omnipresent, and adds to the overall feeling, as does the thunderous voice (no doubt a left over from the opening of Saxon´s “Crusader”), the many choirs, the consciously over-boosted arrangements and the overall comic bock feeling. Be sure not to take this too seriously, just sit back and have a nice relaxing laughing time.
